Ever have an online conversation with a friend via instant messaging and for some reason it just feels awkward. In live speech there is a difference from what people say and what they actually mean but when speaking online it is hard to discern this difference due to lack of a face to see or inflection on certain words. However, I’ve been talking online through instant messaging since 4th grade (13 years of typing!) and I believe I figured out what people actually mean when they are typing. Below is a snippet of a conversation I had with a friend that sparked this very subject and is an investigation into if people actually laugh when they say they are:
4:16 PM me: ha when
Eric: dude finish that ufcking word
enough of this ha bullshit
me: haha means i actually laughed
ha means i think it is funny
haaa means ive come to a funny realization
hHAHAHAHAHAHA means it was hysterical and im laughing out loud alot
lJHAHKJDLKmlmclk means i fell over
4:17 PM lol means im fake laughing
brb
4:21 PM Eric: wow
ur so right
4:22 PM no one says lol anymore
cuz its so fake
wait what does brb mean now

After this I delved deeper into my past and started to bring up some more meaning versus saying dialogues and personality traits as well.
